Assessor is someone who administer standardized assessments include Brown Executive Function/Attention Scales (Brown EF/A Scales) that collects executive function abilities from the child’s parent, Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test, Second Edition (KBIT-2) that tests the child’s verbal and non-verbal IQ, Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests, Third Edition (WRMT-III) that tests the child’s reading abilities, and Test of Word Reading Efficiency, Second Edition (TOWRE-2) tests the child’s abilities identifying sight words and pronouncing non-words.

Degree Requirements:

Individuals with: A master’s degree (obtained or in process) in psychology, education, occupational therapy, social work, counseling, or in a field closely related to the intended use of the assessment, and formal training in the ethical administration, scoring, and interpretation of clinical assessments. OR own certification by or full active membership in a professional organization (such as ASHA, AOTA, AERA, ACA, AMA, CEC, AEA, AAA, EAA, NAEYC, NBCC) that requires training and experience in the relevant area of assessment. OR A degree or license to practice in the healthcare or allied healthcare field. OR Formal, supervised mental health, speech/language, occupational therapy, social work, counseling, and/or educational training specific to assessing children, or in infant and child development, and formal training in the ethical administration, scoring, and interpretation of clinical assessments.

Desired Skill Set and Experience:

  • Experience in all age settings (children and adults)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience administering the assessments listed in job description or similar assessments is a plus but not required

Assessors must have the following clearances prior to any visits. The NL3 Lab will pay the charges for obtaining the following clearances:

Work Schedule:

Flexible hours. Usually the assessor can communicate with participant and find a time slot working for both parties.

Compensation:

$12-14/per hour based on experience. For very experienced assessor, the hourly rate can be negotiated.

The Interpreter provides interpreting services for deaf and hard-of-hearing research participants. During research visits, the Interpreter facilitates communication through use of sign language, spoken English, and cultural mediation. The Interpreter helps researchers to explain the instructions of research experiment.

Degree Requirements:

  • Experience in all age settings (children and adults)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Can both receptively and expressively, interpret accurately, effectively, and impartially, using any necessary specialized vocabulary in order to convey research participants’ messages accurately.Work Schedule:

Undergraduate Research Experience: Apply for UCARE program

Are you interested in getting involved in brain research? If yes, you can apply for UCARE program at UNL. The UCARE program is supported by generous gifts from the Pepsi Quasi Endowment and Union Bank & Trust. There are summer UCARE program and academic year UCARE program.

  • First, check out our research projects and identify your interest area.
  • Second, you can email Dr. Wang at yingying.wang@unl.edu to set up an in-person meeting and discuss the possibility of applying UCARE program under Dr. Wang’s mentorship. In that email, please include introduction of yourself, why you are interested, and how much longer you will be at UNL.
  • Third, after your meeting with Dr. Wang, you will know how to construct a UCARE application proposal. You will draft your proposal and send it to Dr. Wang.
  • At last, you will submit your revised application to the UCARE program online and wait to hear back from the UCARE program. If you succeed in getting the award, you will start in August for the academic year UCARE program or in May for the summer UCARE program.
